The 2006 Radiance workshop was held in the Queens Building
at De Montfort University, Leicester.

Greg
Greg, the second speaker of the morning updated us on
new Radiance features.
DSC_6465.JPG
Axel
Axel offered some perspectives on OpenSource software.
DSC_6468.JPG
Alan
Alan talked about the "Mother of All Renderers."
DSC_6469.JPG
During the break, we had a high dynamic range display
to entertain us.
DSC_6492.JPG
Kurt
Kurt discussed methods he and others at Bristol University
have developed for parallel rendering.
DSC_6493.JPG
David
David (also of Bristol Univ.) talked about fast parallel
hardware and its applications to rendering.
DSC_6494.JPG
Matt
Matt (Bristol again) talked about rendering on mobile
devices (e.g., PDAs).
DSC_6495.JPG
Lunch was provided both days in the lecture hall.
DSC_6503.JPG
Allan
Allan gave a brief presentation on transparent glazings.
DSC_6505.JPG
Adriana
Adriana told us all about circadian rhythms and some
ideas she's developed for enhancing blue light to maintain
them.
DSC_6507.JPG
Krzysztof
Krzysztof also spoke about the accurate modeling of
light spectra for the purposes of evaluating circadian
stimulation.
DSC_6508.JPG
Timo
Timo talked about comparisons between renderings and
reality using psychophysical experiments.
DSC_6563.JPG
Peter
Peter gave us an update on his reflectance/transmittance/emittance
measurement apparatus (i.e., goniophotometer).
DSC_6566.JPG
Luisa
Luisa explained the WebHDR system she and Axel developed.
DSC_6589.JPG
At the end of the first day, we all walked to a nearby
Indian restaurant for dinner.
DSC_6639.JPG
Drinks and more talk.
DSC_6668.JPG
John
John started off the second day as well, this time giving
us a little history on the Daylight Coefficient method
and some of the other climate-based techniques he's
helped to develop.
DSC_6669.JPG
Merete
Merete spoke about a "light flow meter" developed at
Wellington (NZ).
DSC_6676.JPG
Francesco
Francesco spoke about climate-based modeling and a visualization
system he has extended for daylighting design (OpenDX).
DSC_6679.JPG
Thomas
Thomas discussed a system he and Francesco have developed
for lighting analysis using Radiance from within Blender.
DSC_6683.JPG
Andrew
Andrew discussed optimization and visualization methods
being used at Arup.
DSC_6684.JPG
Guilio
Guilio, also from Arup, explained some more advanced
optimization techniques for building design.
DSC_6686.JPG
Philip
Philip spoke about design applications of Radiance from
Arup in Australia, though he's now joined the others
in London.
DSC_6688.JPG
Don
Don gave a demonstration of their Integrated Environmental
Solutions (IES) product.
DSC_6689.JPG
Andrew
Andrew Marsh gave a demo of Ecotect.
DSC_6690.JPG
Greg honored Peter with a pocket knife and a check for
all the work he has done putting together and maintaining
radiance-online.org.
DSC_6692.JPG
Greg also thanked John for organizing the workshop with
a copy of "HDR Imaging" by Reinhard et al.

The group assembled for a photo. (Can you spot the
one we had to paste in?)
